Chathura Jayasankha Gamage

Hello there! Nice to have you here.

About me

I am a PhD candidate in Artificial Intelligence Research Group at the University of Melbourne, where my research focuses on applying graph representation learning techniques to problems in computational genomics. Specifically, I work on disease gene prioritization using graph neural networks (GNNs), integrating information from protein-protein interaction networks, gene co-expression data, and ontology-based knowledge graphs. Before starting my PhD, I worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Yaala Labs, contributing to systems in the FinTech domains. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Moratuwa, and I’m deeply interested in exploring how machine learning can uncover patterns in complex biological systems. Through my research and writing, I hope to bridge the gap between algorithmic innovation and biomedical discovery.

Research Interests

  • Genomics: Disease gene prioritization and multi-omics integration.
  • Neuroscience: EEG/fNIRS signal processing and brain-computer interfaces.
  • Machine Learning: Deep learning, explainable AI, and pattern recognition.
